Subject: American Field Service Student

Dear Family and Friends

We are contacting you on behalf of some extremely good friends who are in a situation of need, and it maybe that you, or someone you know could help.

Robert Barclift is the teenage son of some very good friends of ours who live here in Atlanta. About a year ago he applied to become an AFS student, and about 6 months ago was accepted as a student to go to New Zealand. He has been beside himself with excitement! However, with less than three weeks remaining until he was scheduled to depart, yesterday he was told that AFS have been unable to find a family for him. His parents, Debbie and David, asked us if we may be able to help, hence this email to you.

We have known the Barclifts for many years, firstly through our church, and then through the school where Bruce has now worked for 6 years, and where David recently resigned as Chair of the Board after 7 years of service. They are an outstanding family, and Robert is a wonderful young man. We are attaching a couple of items which were used for the AFS application, and these will give you a more detailed desciption of Robert and his family. In brief, you could not meet a more sincere, friendly, committed family than the Barclifts, and Robert represents the family extremely well.

If you, or someone you know, would like to host Robert, I am sure that it would evolve into an experience that would be very rewarding. Robert is freindly, intelligent, mature beyond his age, and very giving. He is a fine young man, and we have absolutely no reservation about recommending him. The host family would be commiting to accommodate Robert for the period from last August through July 2010. He will have spending money. It is our understanding that if a family can be located, AFS in New Zealand will handle all of the details that would typically be managed at the New Zealand end for a visiting student.

We have probably left out a lot of information, but in the interest of time, we want to get this away to you. If you, or someone you know, has interest in being a host family for Robert, please contact us as soon as possible, and we will answer any questions you may have , and / or put you in direct touch with the Barclifts.

Kindest regards,
Dale and Bruce
