Cancer feeds comedy

American actress in Nelson

My brother and his wife, Jonna Tamases from Los Angeles are taking advantage of the great airfares available at the moment and coming to visit us in Nelson next month.

Jonna is a Hollywood actress and has chosen to perform her one-woman show whilst in New Zealand with ALL proceeds to the NZ Cancer Society. Moving, funny and always entertaining, “Jonna’s Body, Please Hold” is the brainchild of Jonna Tamases who, after her third bout with cancer, brought her story to life – and to the stage. She will be in Auckland, Wellington and at The Suter here in Nelson on Wednesday 20 May. Read more

Fourth of July BBQ 2008

Our 2008 Nelson, USA Club Fourth of July BBQ will be held at the Richmond New Life Cafe at 85 Wensley Road, Richmond from 6.00pm-8.00pm (Friday night). We’d like you to wear red, white and blue and show your patriotic colors or proudly show off your state colors! Brett Holland, guitarist, will also be performing for us! Please pass this invitation on to other Americans you know living in the Nelson region – we invite American families, blended American/Kiwi families and blended American/Other families to celebrate with us.

Click here to see a Google Map to establish driving directions. The easiest way from Nelson is to take the Richmond Deviation, drive through the Queen Street intersection and down Gladstone Road to the Three Brother’s Corner roundabout where you turn left on to Bateup Road. At the next roundabout, turn left again on to Wensley Road and then turn left into the Richmond New Life parking lot opposite the Richmond Cemetery.

As a guitarist and performer, Brett was a guest solo artist playing acoustic originals for the Nelson Women’s Center Fundraiser, as well as at various venues with Hammond Eggs performing in a 3-piece jazz band; the Classic Hits Band, performing classic hits through the ages;  with Fez performing modern British pop hits; with Nelson Youth Orchestra performing the musical score for Les Miserables. Brett was the banjo/mandolin player for  the orchestra for Nelson Girls’ College production of “Chicago”.

His originals band, Fuse Box Social, debuted last week at the Independent Theatre in Nelson.

Brett mentored with Tommy Emmanual, one of the world’s top guitarist in Nashville and during three Australian tours.  Brett is also a songwriter and composer and has just completed his first CD of original contemporary acoustic guitar compositions entitled “Pieces Together”.

Brett shares his love of guitar with more than 60 students at Nelson College for Girls, Garin College, and at his home studio.

Thanksgiving Picnic 2007

Join us on Sunday November 25, 2007 between 11am and 1pm at Rabbit Island under the shadecloth sail.  We hope everyone is looking forward to getting together for Thanksgiving and meeting up with other USA families for a chat.
This event will be totally Bring-Your-Own food and fun.  We hope you can plan a wonderful picnic at the beach for your family and celebrate a Kiwi Thanksgiving in the sun alongside other American families living in the Nelson area.  We will meet under the big sail (shadecloth) structure that we have booked through the council – look out for the American Flags and, as always, bring your American friends!

As this is still the rainy season, please look out for an email during the morning if we have to cancel due to weather. Call Adrienne 544-2088 or Pam 544-6595 for answers.
