4th of July 2006 photos
We celebrated with 32 people this year and had our fill of BBQ food. There was buffalo wings, pizza, baked beans, kebabs, hot dogs, coleslaw, potato salad, potato chips, oreo cookies, m&m cookies & pumpkin pie with cream. We hung the flags and decorated the tables as well as showing slides of kids in their parade gear and fireworks displays from around the US. It was a very sucessful first event for the Nelson, USA Club and we’re all looking forward to getting together again for Halloween in October! Here are some photos of our evening…
1 commentThe Star-Spangled Banner
Words by Francis Scott Key, (1780)
Music by John Stafford Smith
Oh say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hail at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes & bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Flag Etiquette
When and Where to Fly the U.S. Flag:
- On buildings and flagpoles outdoors, display only from sunrise to sunset
- Never leave the flag out in stormy, rainy or bad weather
- Never let the flag touch the ground
- Raise it with hearty briskness and lower it slowly with solemnity
- The blue field with the stars should be at the peak of a staff
- When displayed over the middle of a street, it should be suspended vertically. On a street running east and west, the blue field points north; in a street running north and south, the blue field points east.
